WebJul 19, 2013 · Agreed, but before a few years ago, most manufacturers were building 24-26" barrels for .308/7.62 and as we found out, it's not necessary or desirable. If you believe everything that's been published, 18-20" is not only less weight, but actually more accurate for .308 as the longer barrels give different vibrations/harmonics. WebNov 1, 2024 · I'm wanting to build a AR-10 for deer hunting and want to know the best barrel length to go with. I'm thinking probably the 22" or 24" but their seems to be alot more 20" barrels to choose from. I probably won't be taking shots over 150 yards. I'm not a big hunter and haven't owned but a handful of rifles so any suggestions would be appreciated.
